Carrier
A shipping company that physically transports your parcel (e.g., USPS, UPS, FedEx, DHL).
Tracking Number
A unique code assigned to each shipment used to track its progress from origin to destination.
Fulfillment
The process of picking, packing, and shipping your order. May be handled in-house or by a third-party logistics (3PL) provider.
Label
The shipping label includes the destination address, return address, tracking barcode, and shipping class. It must be printed and attached to each parcel before pickup or drop-off.
Scan
An event recorded when a parcel is scanned by a carrier—this updates its tracking status.
Last Mile Delivery
The final leg of the delivery journey, typically from the carrier’s local hub to the recipient's address.
Manifest
A document listing all the parcels included in a batch pickup. Some carriers require a manifest scan before accepting bulk shipments.
Declared Value
The value of the contents declared for insurance purposes. Determines liability in the event of damage or loss.
Dimensional Weight (DIM Weight)
A pricing technique that considers the size of the package in addition to its actual weight. Larger, lightweight parcels may cost more to ship.
Zone
Shipping zones define the distance between the origin and the destination. Rates often vary by zone.
Delivery Exception
An event that interrupts the normal delivery process (e.g., incorrect address, weather delay, recipient unavailable).
Return Label
A prepaid label included in or with a shipment to allow customers to return items if needed.
HS Code (Harmonized System Code)
Used in international shipping to classify products and calculate duties/taxes. Required for customs clearance.
Customs Declaration
A form that lists the contents, value, and purpose of an international parcel. Required for cross-border shipments.
3PL (Third-Party Logistics)
A service provider that handles warehousing, order fulfillment, and shipping on your behalf.
